BAKER sprinkled a little magic dust on their Softail FrankenTranny transmission assembly to morph it into a builder's kit that fits ALL 5-speed applications from 1990-up. It effectively converts a factory 5-speed into a 6-speed overdrive with provisions for a 1936-based 4-speed kicker. There are 3 different fitment options for these kits.

NOTES:

Kickstart covers and kickarms must be purchased separately. Kickstart covers are available in hydraulic clutch style or mechanical clutch style. Kickarms are available in std. length or 1” extended length. 99-06 Twin Cam applications will require ignition conversion to Evolution style ignition. Fuel injection models will need to be converted to carb. Exhaust systems may require modifications to fit with these kits.

- Twin-Cam Models require ignition retrofit to facilitate kick starting.
- FL models from 1993-up require a BAKER FF oil spout.
- Some exhaust systems may not be compatible w/ the Frankentranny due to the extended transmission length and the required kick arm envelope.

To install the Frankentranny builder's kit, the type of clutch actuator needs to be selected. The clutch actuator is an integral part of the kicker cover. Baker offers a hydraulic, mechanical, or cable type. The cable type , PN 478-56CP is the simplest to install and accepts all O.E. type clutch cables from 1990-2006 and includes the ball-ramp actuation components. Hydraulic type is the cleanest route but requires the purchase of any 11/16" bore master cylinder or Harley equivalent. Mechanical type is the most historically accurate but requires a Shovelhead clutch cable, Baker 14 degree arm (PN182-6N4A), and some fab work to cobble a clutch cable perch; not compatible with Softtail (oil tank).

A KICKER COVER, KICK ARM, AND RELATED PARTS MUST BE SELECTED TO COMPLETE THE FRANKENTRANNY INSTALLATION.
